Viewing a sample database program:

If you have the ‘Microsoft Access’ database-creating program installed on your PC, you can view an excellent example of a customized database. The ‘Northwind’ database is its indigenous sample database and it contains the following disclaimer:

The names of companies, people, characters, and/or data mentioned herein are fictitious and in no way intended to represent any real individual, company, product, or event, unless otherwise noted.

If you don’t have the program on your PC, you may want to find someone who does and view it there, or view it during our initial consultation.

To open the Northwind sample database:

1. Click Start -> Programs -> Microsoft Access (may be listed under Microsoft).
2. In the opening dialog box, make sure ‘Open An Existing File’ is selected.
3. In the list, click ‘Northwind Sample Database’
4. If Northwind hasn’t already been installed, click ‘Yes’ to install it.

To find the above instructions and more:

1. Open Microsoft Access.

2. Select ‘Help’ from the menu at the top.

3. Select the ‘Index’ tab and search for keyword Northwind

Our procedures for achieving your goal:

1. Setup initial database requirements consultation.
2. Assess amount of work required (depending on complexity, the length of this process can vary from one day to two weeks).
3. Prepare basic foundation of required forms, tables, and queries for client’s approval (sample data similar to client’s is used in this procedure).
4. Refine the forms, tables, and queries per client’s wishes.
5. Repeat procedures 1-4 for client’s reports and pages requirements.
